Parent Observation and Safety Policy
At OGC Camp, we greatly appreciate the support, enthusiasm, and involvement of our camp families. We understand that parents are excited to watch their gymnast learn, grow, and enjoy the camp experience, and we are happy to welcome parents to observe designated training sessions whenever permitted.
To maintain a safe, focused, and productive training environment for all athletes, we respectfully ask that parents refrain from coaching, cueing, signaling, correcting, instructing, or directing their child during camp activities, practices, or training sessions.
Gymnastics is a highly technical and high-risk sport that requires specialized instruction, proper progressions, certified spotting techniques, and strict safety protocols. Skills are taught in carefully planned sequences based on each athlete’s ability, readiness, and physical condition. Even well-intentioned comments, corrections, gestures, or encouragement from the sidelines can unintentionally distract athletes, create confusion between coach instructions and parent feedback, interfere with concentration, or encourage athletes to attempt skills before they are prepared to do so safely.
For the safety and well-being of every participant, only OGC Camp staff, credentialed coaches, and authorized personnel are permitted to provide instruction or technical feedback on the training floor. This policy applies to all parents, guardians, family members, and spectators.
In addition, parents and spectators must remain in designated observation areas at all times and may not enter the training floor, equipment areas, athlete warm-up areas, or restricted staff sections unless specifically authorized by OGC staff.
Our goal is to create an environment where athletes can:
-
Focus fully on their coaches and training
-
Build confidence and independence
-
Learn safely through proper progressions
-
Develop trust and communication with camp staff
-
Enjoy a positive and distraction-free camp experience
This policy is not intended to discourage parental involvement or support. We value our camp families and encourage positive encouragement, cheering, and support from designated viewing areas. However, maintaining a controlled and professionally supervised environment is essential for athlete safety and the overall success of the camp.
If a parent or spectator continues to coach, interfere, disrupt instruction, or violate safety guidelines after being reminded of this policy by staff, OGC Camp reserves the right to ask the individual to leave the observation area or premises for the remainder of the session or event.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and trust in our coaching staff. Your partnership and support help us provide a safe, positive, professional, and memorable experience for every gymnast attending OGC Camp.
Thank you for helping us prioritize athlete safety, focus, and success.
Thank You,
OGC Camp
